Urban Water Agenda

Core Group of Cities

The UWA2030 Core Group is composed of more than 20 cities – including some public water utilities – that have committed themselves on a voluntary basis to share their local expertise and political perspectives to shape the development of the UWA2030 strategy.

The Core Group was established by the European Commission in May 2017 after a Call for Expressions of Interest circulated by ICLEI and EUROCITIES at the end of March 2017.

The members of the UWA2030 Core Group represent different regions in Europe and different sizes of cities. These cities are confronted with a variety of challenges to which local governments and other stakeholders in the water sector have developed a range of innovative solutions to address them. The Core Group members will be consulted several times in the course of 2017, mainly through virtual meetings in the form of webinars.

On invitation of DG Environment of the European Commission, the Core Group members also met in person in Brussels on 16 May 2017. At this occasion they provided their perspectives on the direction and the design of the UWA2030 process. Based on this, ICLEI and EUROCITIES will further develop the required strategy and then submit to a larger group of local government officials and other stakeholders for their additional opinion.
