EU Green Cities Summit session: Cities raising the bar towards more sustainable water management in Europe

BluePoint Brussels, Belgium, 24 May 2018

The European Commission in collaboration with ICLEI and EUROCITIES is organizing a session related to the Urban Water Agenda 2030 (UWA2030) which will take place at the BluePoint Brussels on 24 May 2018 from 9:30-11:00. The session is part of the EU Green Week that is focusing this year on the theme of „Green Cities for a Greener Future“.

This session will be the first event during which the finalized strategy for the UWA2030 will be presented to a wider public. Speakers will include Veronica Manfredi, the new Director in charge of Quality of Life (including Water quality) within DG Environment of the European Commission, as well as a member of the European Parliament, local politicians and city representatives.

Cities are significantly impacted by environmental pressures on water resources, such as water scarcity, floods or contamination by pollutants. At the same time they can be at the forefront of innovation and provide security and quality of life for their citizens. The audience will be encouraged to discuss how local governments can be supported in these aspirations, and how they can contribute to Member States' efforts to meet the policy objectives of EU water legislation.

An online description of the session can be found here.
